Grace and Judgements: Christ as Saviour and Judge

Righteousness is one of the attributes of God to which little attention is given in modern preaching and Bible study. This characteristic of God explains why He demands justice and righteousness from all people who were created in His likeness (Eph. 4:24), and why He hates and forbids all forms of unrighteousness. Unrighteousness is sin, and God committed Himself towards eradicating sin by pouring out His wrath and judgements upon all unrepentant sinners. After the final judgement and the condemnation of sinners together with the devil who deceived them, He envisages a new creation into which no sin and unrighteousness will ever enter.

Backsliding from the True Jesus

The world is under strong pressure to turn their backs on the true Christ of the Bible in order to advance a multireligious receptiveness to the appearance of the false Christ of all faiths. The coming Messiah-King of the deceived world will be the Antichrist, the great adversary of the true Christ. An increasing number of people are positively inclined towards his coming, and are completely ignorant of the fact that they were deceived by the devil to engage in paving the way for the appearance of a false prince of peace for all of humanity.

Capacities in which the Lord Jesus will Appear

The church dispensation is rapidly drawing to a close, which means that the great end-time revelation of Jesus Christ is at hand. In a relatively short period He will be revealed in different capacities to different groups of people, depending on their relationship with Him. These large groups of people are, firstly, the true believers of all time, secondly, the unsaved world, and thirdly, the people of Israel.

Conformity to the Image of Christ

During His creation, the Triune God, Elohim, said: “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness” (Gen. 1:26). This likeness refers in the first instance to the spiritual part of our existence. “God is a Spirit” (John 4:24) and He created a being with an immortal spirit and soul, with whom He could communicate. Because of the Fall, man died spiritually. However, through spiritual rebirth God wishes to quicken fallen man, and to associate closely with him by living in him and making home with him (John 14:23).

Because man was made for fellowship with God it is imperative that, spiritually and morally, he puts off all the depraved characteristics which were brought about by the Fall, and puts on the holy nature of God (Eph. 4:22-24; Rom. 12:2). As a moral being he must become like God, therefore the command: “Be holy, for I am holy” (1 Pet. 1:16). Other moral attributes of God that must also be pursued are love, charity, mercy, impartiality, forgivingness and hatred of sin.

Gospel Perspectives in Matthew and Luke

Abstract: Matthew and Luke proclaimed the same Gospel message, but applied it to different groups of people. Knowledge of these differences and complementary perspectives will help us understand the distinctly different positions and prophetic roles of Israel and the church.

Jesus Christ is the greatest of all the prophets. In His teachings and parables He made searching expositions of the spiritual state of people and unambiguously indicated the way to forgiveness and salvation. He also made dramatic revelations of contemporary and long-term events and often referred to the end of the age. In the last week before His crucifixion He stunned His disciples with a statement that Jerusalem would be destroyed and that of the majestic temple buildings no stone would be left upon another that would not be thrown down. They anxiously asked: “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?” (Mt. 24:3 NKJV).

Jesus Christ in Biblical Prophecies

The spiritual and doctrinal value of various articles currently published on Israel is extremely poor. Authors mostly offer only a secular review of news events without giving a balanced biblical perspective on them.

It is an alarming fact that even Christian analysts on the situation in the Middle East reveal very little insight into Israel’s end-time position. Obama is now blamed for isolating and forsaking Israel. Is he responsible for these actions or did the Lord ordain them? According to Ezekiel 22:18-22, Jeremiah 30:7 and Zechariah 14:2, the Lord will bring Israel into great affliction because they have, spiritually, become dross in His eyes for dishonouring His Word and rejecting the Messiah. In the light of this situation we should understand their international dispersion during the past 2000 years, as well as the Holocaust of World War II. Or will we merely blame the Roman Empire, the Nazis and other nations for this human tragedy? These nations are definitely guilty, but Israel is more guilty and mainly responsible for their own problems. Didn’t Jesus say that Jerusalem would be destroyed and trodden down because its inhabitants refused to accept Him as their Messiah (cf. Matt. 23:37-38)? We will have to go back very far in church history to determine the origins of these doctrinal deficiencies and wrong teachings.
